If You Don’t Know Why You’re Here, You’re Already Lost

The other day, my wife was upset that I forgot her birthday.
“That’s ridiculous,” I said. “I didn’t even know it was your birthday.”
“Precisely,” she replied.
It struck me — this is exactly how so many situations play out in life and work.
If you don’t know why you’re here, you can’t know what to do while you’re here.
People attend meetings without any idea why they’re there.
Speakers take the stage without knowing what the audience came for.
Service teams interact with customers without understanding what the customer actually wants.
The result?
You’re busy, but not productive.
Talking, but not connecting.
Working, but not delivering value.
“Purpose is the compass that guides every decision and action.”
Awareness is the foundation of focus.
When you know the purpose — the “why” — you can channel your energy into what matters most.
Without it, you’re just groping in the dark, hoping something will click.
“People groping in the dark don’t find solutions—they create more problems.”
Before you start:
Ask: What am I here to achieve?
Clarify the expectations — yours and theirs.
Align your actions with the bigger goal.
Because clarity is not just power.
Clarity is direction.
“Clarity turns the fog of confusion into the spotlight of purpose.”
